Itsy Bitsy Refresh In The Powder Room

With 19 kids, our little powder room gets a lot of use. Yes, it feels like I'm a Duggar most of the time, especially on the weekends! I've even had one of Callie's friends list herself as one of my children on facebook! LOL (Bethany you KNOW who you are) About the bathroom, it's a sweet little room with WHITE TILE FLOOR AND WHITE GROUT. In theory, that's wonderful, bright and pretty. In reality, it needs to be bleached DAILY! Anyway, this little room needed a little update. BUDGET UPDATE was totally the name of the game, isn't it always I guess?! I REALLY want new lights, a new towel rack a new tp holder and a new mirror. That's NOT happening...so this is what I did...
EDIT:   I ADDED 5 more delightful and wonderful little soaps and the footed bird tray to the wall from Pier 1.  CONTRARY to what the lady at Pier 1 was worried about, it went up on the wall with a plate holder just fine. Thank You. ;-) PLUS, I painted the mirror Heirloom White...LOVE it, great contrast against the richness of the oil rubbed bronze!
We unhooked the crappy builders grade "brass" light, the chrome TP holder and the nice brass towel hanger off the walls.  Mr. Rustoleum Hammered was invited over and he did an EXCELLENT job of covering those hodge podge pieces and unified and updated them into something we could live with.  All that, and he didn't even charge us 5 dollars!   I LOVE HIM!  Handy Husband then reattached all of the "new" faux oil rubbed bronze finish accoutrements.  Now we are GETTING SOMEWHERE!  We still needed the fun little bits to make the room feel welcoming...and LET ME TELL you, NOTHING says WELCOME in a potty like a hand pressed POINT in your TP.  BELIEVE you ME, my under 14 crowd more than appreciates the thought that goes into that little DETAIL.  I'm sure their Moms do it at home.  And HECK, if not, then they'll feel like they are staying in a really NICE MOTEL 6!  Let's share the fun little tid bits with you that make this bathroom a bit more fun.  You know the "Hey, have a seat and stay awhile" feeling that most bathrooms are going for these days.
I had the fortune of going to HEAVEN (IKEA) today with my wonderful driving friend, Stephanie. DO NOT make a mistake, I totally think that it is NOT a coincidence that both words have EA in them. Does anyone now if IKEA actually MEANS HEAVEN in Swedish? I snagged these CHEAPO hand towels and an ANGEL SOFT down comforter to put in my Annette Tatum duvet cover. I hid this SAAAWEEEET antique locker basket I had temporarily put in the kids bathroom, UNDER my shirt (YOU know, that whole Michelle Duggar look again) and smuggled it downstairs. (I had originally had BIG plans for it in the kids bathroom, but alas, that was not to be)  I put the two together...a match made in HEAVEN. (I think there is a THEME here today!) I had these little DELIGHTFUL soaps with bird pictures and nests on the packaging, I really LOVE anything with birds, I've got something with birds in about every room. I put some preserved moss in the bottom of an apothecary jar (to give it some "LIFE") then plopped in the sweet little soaps. I think I'm going to have to get about 2 or 3 more little soaps to fill it up a bit more, but I already LOVE it!

Just a couple "lunch money" changes and a can of spray paint and I have a refreshed powder room! I still would like to get something different for the wall, I just threw those two Southern Living At Home plaques up so you wouldn't see the nails from the old bird "prints". They were actually matted and framed Hallmark cards with bird prints from the nature artist Marjolein Bastin. I LOVE her work! As much as I loved them, they had been up for about a million years and had seen better days. I have my eye on a cool BIRD PRINTED METAL TRAY at Pier One (I have a GIFT CARD TOO!) but I have to see if it's still in stock.  I'm going to "try" to hang it where the plaques are. Now the only question is, should I paint the frame to my mirror? And if so, should it be Heirloom White or the Hammered Oil Rubbed Bronze? Let me know what you think. PLEASE! ;-)   If you are wondering, the paint color is actually a soft blue green duck egg color called "blueberry hint" by Behr.  Oh, and that little note about the POINT on the TP?  It's a weeee exageration.   WEEEE!  I made a funny.  That's so punny!

I'm participating in a blog hop (I've never done this before, looks like FUN!) so if you want to comment ( I totally big puffy heart your comments) the comments are BELOW the blog party.  But check out everyone's links...it's like a time warp!

I love your newly painted fixtures, what an inexpensive and lovely way to make a big change...they turned out great. I love spray paint. Love the locker basket, and especially the moss and little bird soaps. Oh, I must not forget the tp point...I gave up on those a long time ago, even though they do look so nice...I might go make one now. Thanks for the inspiration.
