Our Painted Black Cabinets Kitchen REVEAL PARTY...not really but I got tired of promising you!

If you scroll down past the kitchen you can see the fireplace.  The mirror and surrounding molding was rescued from a demolished gentlemens cigar bar in Maryland.  THANKS for looking!

Don't let these photos fool ya! It's really not done but I couldn't wait any longer (for now at least). We still need to do the counters and decide on the color for the bottom of the kitchen island. The counters won't be happening for a while (this not being able to have a job sucks in so many ways) .  I'm in LOVE with the reclaimed wood kitchen island top (you might remember my wood saga), that our friend Bryan Ford was super kind enough to put the board together for us and make this cool top!  If I could, I'd rip out that light and get a pendant light or two that is more plain, more like the school house style or something. That light was great when our cabinets were oak but now they are a bit much. One I like at Ikea is super cheap then there are some other cool ones (the ones at the bottom of the post...only $50.00!) at www.mothology.com that are awesome and inexpensive compared to others on the market that I've seen. Remember, we are on a BUDGET just like the rest of the US so instead of getting NEW knobs we spray painted the old knobs with paint that mimics stainless.
Since this isn't the final KITCHEN RENO REVEAL, I'm not going to go crazy posting before and afters but here are some links to some of the kitchen posts,  OH and BTW, I have more people find my blog from google searches of painted black cabinets than anything, so a lot of people must be thinking about black paint all over the world! :o)

Yesterday, we had new couches delivered for our family room.  It's been forever, like 10 years since we had furniture in the family, but you'll have to go to yesterdays post to find out WHY we really needed new furniture and you can scroll down and see the HOW I made the temporary fix...let's just say it involves duct tape!  Um. Yeah.    Before the furniture men came, I had to take Callie to an appt. and then we popped by Pier 1 to pick up a chair I had on hold for the family room.  It's actually a dining room chair  but we are going to use it as an occassional chair.  My husband wasn't too crazy about the idea until I showed him the price differences between the two.  Sometimes you have to think outside the box!  Plus I LOVE this chair, it matches the family room perfectly!  I'm going to edit yesterday's post to include a photo of the chair!  I'm so excited about these new goodies! ;-)

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, you and me both. I love decorating with black. I did our hallway bath with blacks and golds. The work here that you did is great...so bold, so pretty.

Hey,
Thanks for following my blog, I am now following yours as well. We have LOADS in commmon! I have been working on my kitchen cabinets too...only mine are white. I routered out my cabinet doors and put glass in them too. :) I also put beadboard in the backs and painted it a soft powdery pink. :) I'm definitely a girlie girl! :) Have a great weekend!

Holy cow girl- they look FABULOUS!! You say it's not finished (when is it EVER finished? At least in my house....) but it looks fantastic as is.

As for your island, I saw a sneak of blue on those little cuppy things on your oven and on a throw pillow on your new couch...I say go with that. Bright, fresh and a perfect contrast to the black.

Your kitchen is beautiful! I'm in the middle of remodeling mine too. It is taking forever. Thanks for the inspiration.

You did a great job. My sister wants to paint her cabinets black, as well, and your kitchen is almost identical to her floorplan. I'll have to send her over to take a look. would love to see you island, as well.

I like your kitchen remodel! It looks like your kitchen is very similar in design to mine with the exception that you have a few more feet on the wall where your oven is. We even have our Kitchenaid in the same location! I wish I could put an island in my kitchen but it would be in the way of getting to my mud, laundry and home office rooms.

I love your black painted cabinets! Even though I ended up with a white kitchen I was so close to choosing black! And I love all of the white you have displayed in your open cabinets, so pretty!

I love Mothology and those mercury glass pendants, they are a great price too!

Black and white it so classic, so timeless. I'm trying to convince my Mom to paint her cabinets black. Perhaps after she sees your kitchen she will change her mind!

Thanks for adding your link, I'm glad you could come! Your daughter's dove sounds so sweet! :) We used to have a pet bunny named Whiskers, that would lick your nose when you picked her up. I got prego and we had to get rid of her...too much fur! :( She went to a great home though. :) Thanks again for linking up!
I'm gonna do a blog on my cabinet re-do soon, you'll have to check in with me. :)

I am so loving your kitchen! Your black cabinets are wonderful and I love the island top. We are going through an island saga, I need to read up on how you made yours.

Funny I found you because I have the same kind of post on my blog today. (kitchen makeover in stages and on a budget).

Beautiful job, so nice to "meet" you!

Off to read more of your posts.

I just found your site today and I'm so happy. I think God lead me to it...lol! My hubby and I have been arguing about which house to buy (ours is up for sale....sadly we're having to downsize from our dream home to a small starter home - at 50!!) It's been traumatic to go from having such pretty things to looking at such boring box houses as I call them. Now you've given me new vision! He wanted this house with oak cabinets which I hate the oak. So....I'm going to play "let's make a deal...!" He helps me paint the oak cabinets black and we'll buy it. Can you tell me what paint/color you used. I tried to follow your formula primer, wax, paint, etc...but I got sorta lost. Thanks again and it's lovely! Sue www.awelllovedhome.com

I love the combination of black, white and metal as house furniture and accessories colors. They compliment to each other and made your home a stylish yet elegant house. Hope to have one in the future. Starting a new business might help so that I can earn extra and start saving for the above fabulous home decor.
